Our process for restoring your deck:
-
Our process for re-staining consists of power washing the decks with deck cleaner and other supplies to remove any dirt dust or algae. The majority of the time other painting companies don’t prep or treat the deck before staining, this causes the decks to be peeling in less than 2 years. With Clear Choice Painters we take the staining process seriously, and we take our time to do only the best to complete any staining deck project.
-
If your deck has been stained poorly by dishonest or inexperienced painters, you will notice areas where the stain is peeling. If the stain is peeling, power washing is not going to be enough to remove this kind of problem. Instead, we discover the best way to approach and resolve the problem which is scraping and sometimes stripping off the old stain in order to form a solid clean surface for the new stain. Although, this is not all that we do, we also check any loose board and we place new screws to tight them. If we find rotten wood we replace them to avoid future problems.
-
We would give you heads up as soon as the drying process starts, decks take at least 3 days weather-wise before applying any stain otherwise, the stain will fail.
Once the deck is completely dry and peppered is time for the new stain. We use premium stains 3 in one, stain, waterproofing and sealer. The best way to apply the stain is by brush designed specially stain, sometimes we use a roll, we also use spray machines for large areas but we always back brush so the stain can penetrate into the wood grain or pores.
Any color changes generally require two coats of paint. If your interior painting project does not require a color change, then one coat of paint will most likely suffice. After painting the walls with two coats, we’ll paint your trim and doors.
-
Decks generally require 1 – 2 coats of stain. The number of coats applied depends on the state of the deck prior to staining. Generally, we will apply two coats of stain to horizontal surfaces like the deck floor, the stairs, and the tops of rails. Vertical surfaces like spindles and fascia along the outside of the deck only require 1 coat unless you are changing the color.
-
As always, we want to leave your home and deck looking the best it has ever looked. We’ll be sure to clean up and make your deck show quality for the whole family to enjoy.
